I like to eat. Period. Although I try to watch the nutritional aspect of the food I eat, I like variety in both what and where I eat.
This page is a presentation of the places I like to eat from all over West Michigan.
Cascade East Shopping Mall
6503 28th St. S.E., Grand Rapids, MI
Pal's Diner is a streetcar style cafe, which was moved to the current location from New Jersey. Breakfast is served all day in this cozy, everyone-gets-to-know-you place. One of my favorites is the Olive Burger with Pal's original sauce, and a thick chocolate malt as a chaser. I've had the burger with a Car Full Of Fries, which is a cardboard fold-up of a model car, stuffed full of crispy french fries. Another great lunch is the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich. A chocolate malt goes good with this dish too.
Service, atmosphere and prices are great at this little jewel. Try it if you are in the area.
Big T Fine Food & Spirits
Big T's is the town of Lawton. The original place has expanded to take up the whole of one city block. Our first trip to
this favorite was a hot summer evening, looking for a cold beer. We looked for a bar while slowing down in Lawton, and tried Big T's. We walked in the back door, hoping to pull up to the bar and a cold Budweiser, and WOW! The little place was wall-to-wall people, and a waiting list. No way was I going to wait in Lawton, Michigan! Now, several years, and hundreds of trips later, I am Grand Master #401 of the Tommy Tetuski Memorial Beer Drinking Club, and consider Big T's one of my all time favorite places to eat and drink beer.
The food menu features finger foods, baskets, soups, south of the border, submarines, sandwiches, dinners and desserts. I have tried and liked almost everything on the menu.
The Beer Club features a variety of 240 mostly imported beer, of which you need to drink 130 of your choices. There is no time limit, but legend has it that the record for completing the round is 7 days! Upon completion, you will receive a shirt, mug and hat. Your name will ge engraved forever on the Wall of Foam as a Grand Master of Beer Steinery.
Everything is good here. A little busy on Friday and Saturday nights, but OK after 9 p.m.
BD's Mongolian Barbeque
2080 W. Grand River, Okemos, MI 48864
At the Mongolian Barbeque, you select your own ingredients for stir fry. Choices include beef, pork, chicken, turkey,
fish, shrimp and calamari; 14 different vegetables (bean sprouts, onions, carrots, mushrooms, etc.) selected oils and
sauces, and lots of different spices and condiments. The focal point of the restaurant-the grill- is where you watch your
personally selected concoction prepared by the chef right before your eyes. Lots of food, lots to drink and lots of fun.
6264 28th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546
Peking Wok's is a Chinese restaurant tucked in among several stores in a local strip mall. The best value
is the $5.45 lunch buffet. The buffet is simple, but always very good. Hot and Sour and Egg Drop soup for starters. Egg rolls, chicken wings and Crab Cheese rangoons are in the appetizers area. There are usually 2 entree's
of either poultry, pork or beef, served with either/or white or fried rice.
There is usually no wait if you get in a little before noon on weekdays.
